Hu’s works range from drawing to performance, video, and installation. Interested in how an individual positions him or herself within the course of history, he constructs the links that probe the inseparable coexistence of past and present, individual and public. He is adept at mobilising various personal and historical experiences, incorporating previously produced materials into his artworks; as a consequence, it is impossible to consider any of Hu’s works in isolation since they all share a common theme, an element of foreshadowing, and they are all conceptually interconnected.
《 Narration Sickness》
Hu Yun
Born in 1986 in Shanghai, Hu Yun lives and works in Shanghai. He graduated from China Academy of Art. In his practice, Hu Yun revisits historical moments in order to provide alternative readings, a process that also informs the artist’s self-reflection on his native and personal ties.
His selected solo exhibitions include ‘up to the sky’- Magician Space Beijing 2010; ‘Image of Nature’- Natural History Museum London 2010; ‘Our Ancestors’- Goethe Institut Shanghai 2012; ‘Lift with Care’ 2013 and ‘narration sickness’ 2016 at AIKE DELLARCO Gallery. His works have also been exhibited at Power Station of Art Shanghai (PSA), Centre Pompidou Paris and Times Museum Guangzhou. Hu Yun has participated in the 7th Shenzhen Sculpture Biennale (2012), 4th Guangzhou Triennial (2012) and 11th Gwangju Biennale(2016). He is the co-founder of art e-journal PDF.
