About West Bund Art & Design

 

West Bund Art & Design 2015 will be held at the West Bund Art Center and the newly open West Bund Culture and Art Pilot Zone from September8-13, 2015. The art and design fair, which features more than 30 premium galleries and design studio exhibitions from around the world, promises to delight audiences with a rare feast for the eyes.

 

West Bund Art and Design is the first top-tier contemporary art and design fair of its kind to be held in China. Drawing from prestigious galleries and design studios worldwide, works selected for the fair highlight the most important and active contemporary artists – all revolving around the theme:“Art to inspire life, design to emulate it.”

Highlights

The Fair in an aircraft manufacturing factory

 

West Bund Art & Design is a rarely fair in China to exhibit in large booths and to display with a museum-level experience. The West Bund Art Center, where it happens, the building is previously a factory site of the Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., maintains the integrity of its factory aesthetic, extending the space's expansiveness by knocking down walls to open the building's east and west pediments, to be a building on a par with museums. Exactly its modern architecture and spacious interior make itself the perfect venue for West Bund Art & Design. Each institution with a booth of about one-hundred quarter meters here could bring the audience with a unique and comfortable visit experience. As a promise to audience, not only premium institutions and top works will be presented, and also the best visit experience provided by West Bund Art & Design.

More high-quality galleries dynamically participate this year

Following the wild success of West Bund Art & Design's debut, a strong lineup of prominent and renowned galleries requested to join the fair in 2015. Many premier galleries featured in the first fair will return this year, including Aike Dellarco, Antenna Space, BANK, Beijing Art Now Gallery, Boers-Li Gallery, James Cohan Gallery, Don Gallery, Hauser & Wirth, Leo Xu Projects, Magician Space, OTA Fine Arts, Pace Gallery, Pearl Lam Fine Art, ShanghArt Gallery, Shanghai Gallery of Art, Star Gallery, Vanguard Gallery, Whiter Cube and White Space Beijing. Building on this impressive foundation, Arario Gallery, Ben Brown Fine Arts, Cass Sculpture Foundation, Chambers Fine Art Sadie Coles HQ, Massimo de Carlo, Imagokinetics, INK Studio, Leo Gallery, Lin & Lin Gallery, GalerieUrsMeile, Victoria Miro and Platform China will beadded to this year's exhibitions for the first time. Particularly, three top galleries around the world Ben Brown Fine Arts, Sadie Coles HQ and Victoria Miro will bring their first show in mainland China.

All-star cast of artists light up West Bund

 

An all-star cast of artists including the likes of Marina Abramovic, Damien Hirst, Paul McCarthy, Yayoi Kusuma, Kenji Tsuruta, Tracey Emin, Tony Cragg, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Sarah Lucas, Antony Gormley, Martin Creed, Urs Fischer and Jenny Holzer will light up the West Bund with their unique and brilliant works among which some of the works are rarely displayed in mainland China. In addition, works of the Chinese artists such as WANG Keping, ZHANG Peili, WANG Xingwei, SUI Jianguo, DING Yi, LIU Wei, LEE Kit and TANG Dixin etc. will also be exhibited at the fair.

Regional art fair integrating linked spaces

 

As the first large-scale regional art fair in China, West Bund Art & Design 2015 breaks through the limitations of a single space, dynamically linking different exhibits in the West Bund Art Center and the West Bund Culture & Art Pilot Zone venues, to keep pursuing of having more audience attracted by the art and design. For example, a collaborative exhibition, “Ateliers in Progress” will be presented by five architecture studios: Archi Union, Deshaus, GOM, TONG Ming and Atelier Z+ to have an encounter with architecture design. 

Special projects and forum

 

Special projects presented by diverse institutions will also enrich the highlights of West Bund Art & Design. Interiorly, Ai You Foundation and New Century Art Foundation(NCAF) jointly present the Project Perfect: The Passive Image – Poetics as an Introduction of Painting, Personal collection exhibition of artist SHI Yong Art of Living will be displayed by AD Magazine, as well as MoCA Pavilion by MOCA Shanghai, 9m2-Museum curated by ZHANG Bing, Primeval Landscape by Songyang field workstation, Turn The Page created by UNDEFINE etc. Besides, Allure of Distance: an Encounter between Blue Shanghai White and Rosenthal and Dry Landscape Spread Plan by L.S Art, artist Aaajiao and KEE Club will be presented exteriorly.

Intensive Art Events Burst in to bloom in September Art Week

Numerous exhibitions will open during the fair’s period. On 1st Sept, Rain Room Asia Premiere and Two Tracks: YANG Fudong Solo Exhibition will dually open; on the following 8th Sept, QIAO Space will open with exhibition Wilhelm Sasnal Paintings, as well as Ceramic Pavilion by collector WANG Bing and ShanghArt Gallery West Bund Space with its 2015 Summer will open on the same day. Besides, an Opening Ceremony Grain to Pixel: a Story of Photography in China in SCOP andspecial Event WANG Yuyang The Artist is Absent Premiere and Champagne Reception presented by New Century Art Foundation “New Artrends” in Long Museum (West Bund) will also be held on the 8th.

The second week of September is notably splendid with West Bund Art & Design 2015 (8th–13th Sept), Photo Shanghai (10th– 13th Sept), Art In The City (11th– 14th Sept) will jointly create the most gorgeous September Art Week in Shanghai; Manifold museums, galleries and art institutions in Shanghai will cooperatively present diverse excellent exhibitions, to draw a colorful Shanghai Art Map for collectors and audience home and abroad.
