The most rare and sought-after porcelain in the world, the ChenghuaChicken Cup of the Ming dynastywill appear as a centerpiece at LONG MUSEUM’s special exhibit The World of Zhu Jianshen: The Life of a Chinese Emperor and His Era. The opening ceremony will be held on December 18 in West Bund of Long Museum. The exhibition will be held from December 19, 2014 - February 8, 2015.
Chenghua chicken cups are priceless and rare. For hundreds of years, they have enjoyed a grandreputation in the world and were especially treasured by Ming and Qing emperors. Despite theskillfulreplicas in thepast ages, none is comparable in qualitytothe “Chenghua”. The excellent craftwork reflects the important advancements in Chinese society during the Chenghua period.

The exhibition will focus on theChenghua chicken cupsand will also showcase important representatives of ChenghuaDoucai porcelain, excellent calligraphy and paintings fromthe period, and a lot of precious literary documents. It will also combine modern images to restore and enter into the mindworld ofthe Chenghua Emperor Zhu Jianshen to learn about the social, cultural and arts changes in China during his governance, re-understand the emperor,as well asa real turning point in the Ming dynasty: the emergence of the Burghers Class, the prosperity of culture and the arts and the new spirit of the age. Waking dormant, ancient secrets and opening the gatesof history to discover the real creativity of the Ming dynasty is the purpose of this exhibition.
